This is Nader K. Rad, your trainer for this micro-course on PRINCE2. I like to welcome you and hope that you can enjoy it.

This is a simple awareness course. The goal is to create a high-level understanding of PRINCE2 without too much effort. From this point on, you’ll receive one email per day, containing a really simple lesson on PRINCE2. They are short, so that you can read them in a few minutes. It’s ideal for otherwise wasted time on the way to work and back home.

Alright, let’s start with the basics: what is PRINCE2?

PRINCE2 stands for Projects IN Controlled Environments. The “2” is for the second generation. The first generation was only about IT project, but the current generation of standard is applicable to any project.

PRINCE2 is a methodology for managing projects. It tells you what to do, when to do that, and who should do that. Isn’t it great? Well, you should know that it doesn’t tell you exactly how to do things. For that type of questions, you should refer to other resources. That’s just outside the scope of PRINCE2.

PRINCE2 belongs to AXELOS. It’s a UK joint venture of the government and a private company. It used to belong to OGC, which was a governmental agency in the UK.

There are many amazing standards in the AXELOS family that also cover program management, portfolio management, value management, risk management, and PMOs. When you study the rest of them, you also understand PRINCE2 more deeply.

OK, in your opinion, what’s in common among successful projects? Can you prepare a list? We’re going to start talking about them tomorrow.
